Pakistan's Ambassador to China: oil supplies from Russia will ease Pakistan's economic situation

20 June 2023

Supplies of Russian oil will make up for the shortage of energy resources and ease the difficult economic situation in Pakistan, Pakistani Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque said on Tuesday.

"The first ever shipment of Russian oil just arrived in Pakistan due to a well-thought-out delivery process," he was quoted as saying by the Global Times. - "The purpose of this deal is to benefit the Pakistani people amid rising oil prices around the world, to positively impact the difficult economic situation and [the problem of] energy shortages in the country."

The ambassador noted that by doing so, Pakistan and Russia have begun to promote a new type of relationship. "I pay tribute to all who have been part of this national endeavor and have contributed to making the promise of Russian oil imports a reality," he concluded.

As Pakistan's Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik earlier said, Islamabad has purchased 100,000 tons of Russian oil and intends to continue importing it. It is expected that the payments, which are made in yuan, will help the Pakistani side to avoid Western sanctions, as well as circumvent difficulties in mutual settlements.
