Patrushev: Russia and Oman Have Vast Potential for Deeper Maritime Partnership

29 January

With Russia’s storied maritime heritage and Oman’s strategic geography, both nations have vast potential for a much deeper partnership at sea, Nikolay Patrushev, Assistant to the Russian President and Chairman of the Maritime Board, said following high-level talks in Oman.

Patrushev noted that Russia and Oman share a long history of friendship, built on mutual respect. He expressed confidence that their maritime cooperation will follow that same path of steady growth.

"The world’s oceans bring people together, opening up new frontiers for trade, science, and cultural exchange," Patrushev noted. "Russia, as a major maritime power, and Oman, positioned at the crossroads of vital sea lanes, are perfectly placed to strengthen their ties."

The head of the Maritime Board added that recent consultations across both the naval and civilian maritime sectors have opened new doors for both sides. He concluded that working together will yield real-world results, helping to keep the Indian Ocean stable while boosting its economic and scientific potential.

On January 28 in Muscat, Patrushev held a series of strategic meetings on global maritime stability and cooperation. His itinerary included talks with General Sultan bin Mohammed al-Nu'amani, Minister of the Royal Office; Idris Al Kindi, Secretary General of the National Security Council; Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman; and several other officials overseeing maritime affairs.
