Peskov: Russia Remains in Dialogue with IAEA Over Bushehr NPP Situation

23 March

Russia is in constant dialogue with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding the situation surrounding the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, told reporters.

"Bushehr is a nuclear facility that is under UN control, under the control of the IAEA. Russia is in constant dialogue with the IAEA. You know that the head of Rosatom [Alexey] Likhachev has already repeatedly made very alarming statements in connection with the strikes that have already been carried out," Peskov said, commenting on the ultimatum issued by US President Donald Trump.

On Saturday, the US President stated that the United States would destroy several Iranian power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully opened for shipping within 48 hours. The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces warned in response that the Iranian military would launch retaliatory strikes against US energy and information infrastructure facilities in the region if Washington attacks power plants on the territory of the Islamic Republic.
