Afghanistan is an important country in Central Asia, bordering former Soviet territories, and therefore dialogue with it is necessary. This was stated by Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov during a briefing for Indian media ahead of the Russia-India summit in New Delhi.
"We have our own relations with Afghanistan. There is a de facto government in Afghanistan. It is an important country in the region. It is a neighboring country to former Soviet territories; it borders Tajikistan," noted the Kremlin representative, adding that Russian border guards are stationed in Tajikistan. "Therefore, we need to engage in dialogue with Afghanistan, and we have full mutual understanding with India in this regard," he concluded.
