Putin and Aliyev Hold Talks

Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev confirmed their commitment to further developing cooperation between their two countries in various fields during a telephone conversation, the Kremlin press service reports.

 

"The parties discussed certain topical aspects of the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their mutual intent to further develop Russian-Azerbaijani interaction in various areas based on the principles of strategic partnership and alliance," the statement said.

 

During the call, Putin expressed his gratitude to Aliyev for assistance in the evacuation of Russian citizens from Iran, which has been attacked by the US and Israel. He also thanked him for "ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid from Russia to the Iranian people through Azerbaijani territory."

 

The two leaders exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and spoke in favor of an early cessation of hostilities and a settlement of the current acute conflict through political and diplomatic means.
