Putin awarded the President of Turkmenistan with the Order of Friendship

Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded his counterpart from Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, with the Order of Friendship. A decree to this effect was issued by the Russian president on Wednesday.


It is noted that Berdimuhamedov was awarded "for his great contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan".


On March 15, 2022, the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan reported that the early presidential elections, held on March 12, Serdar Berdimuhamedov won with 72.97% of the vote. Earlier his father Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was the head of the country.


Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who was then deputy chairman of the cabinet of ministers, ran in the elections as a candidate of the country's ruling Democratic Party.


The Order of Friendship is awarded to Russians and citizens of foreign countries for special achievements in strengthening peace, friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between peoples, fruitful activities to bring together and mutually enrich the cultures of nations and nationalities, active work to preserve, augment and promote the cultural and historical heritage of Russia, labor achievements in industry, agriculture and other sectors of the economy. The state award is also awarded for fruitful activity in the development of science, education, healthcare and culture, for a major contribution to implementing major economic projects jointly with the Russian Federation and attracting investment funds into the country's economy, and for extensive charitable activities.
