Russian President Vladimir Putin said that neither side is interested in further development of the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Russia has played a certain role in the settlement of the very serious crisis [in Nagorno-Karabakh]. And no one is interested in seeing it develop - not Azerbaijan, not Armenia, and especially not the people of Nagorno-Karabakh," he said during a live line on Wednesday. - "If we all live peacefully, we will create conditions for the improvement of people's lives, not only in terms of security but also in terms of current conditions. I mean the normal existence of families, I mean economic development, social development, which, of course, the people living in Karabakh need very much. Because it's impossible to live in constant anxiety that there will be a renewed armed conflict; we understand that very well. It means that the leaders of both Armenia and Azerbaijan also understand this".
Putin noted that there are many problems accumulated in the region. "There are issues related to the restoration of normal infrastructure, there are issues related to the delimitation of the border in order to carry out appropriate work on the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, especially where there has never actually been a state border, there was only an administrative border between the Union republics," the president explained.
He noted that a process in which these issues are being resolved is already underway, and a special trilateral group (Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia) has been set up. "We will do everything in order to restore normal relations in the region. And the beneficiaries of this work must of course be the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. And I would like to think that this will be the case, despite all the difficulties that have been accumulating for decades," the president stressed.
