Putin Thanks Tokayev for Supporting Russian Language in Kazakhstan

12 November

President Vladimir Putin expressed appreciation to his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for Kazakhstan's continued support of the Russian language, as the two leaders concluded meetings during Tokayev's state visit to Moscow.

“It is particularly gratifying that Russian is widely and freely used throughout Kazakhstan. I want to thank the President for this,” Putin stated. He noted that under Kazakhstan's constitution, Russian holds official language status and receives active support from the country's leadership in various spheres.

Putin highlighted the symbolic timing of Kazakhstan's Cultural Days currently taking place in Moscow, revealing that the two presidents would attend a gala concert by Kazakh performers at the historic Bolshoi Theatre later in the evening.

The Russian leader emphasized the traditionally rich nature of bilateral humanitarian cooperation, pointing to strong partnerships in science, education, sports, and youth exchanges. “Approximately 55,000 Kazakh students are studying in Russia, half of them on state scholarships,” he noted, adding that branches of leading Russian universities including Moscow State University and MGIMO operate successfully in Kazakhstan.
