Putin to Chair Major Security Council Meeting on “Traditional Values”

10 June

Russian President Vladimir Putin will convene a full session of the Security Council at his residence in Novo-Ogaryovo, focusing on state policy regarding the protection of traditional spiritual and moral values. The event was announced by Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov during a briefing.

“This will be a large-format Security Council meeting—not to be confused with the regular meetings of its permanent members,” Peskov clarified. “The main topic is the improvement of state policy in safeguarding traditional values, which is an issue of exceptional importance.”

Putin will deliver opening remarks, after which the rest of the meeting will take place behind closed doors. However, Peskov noted that Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu will speak to the press afterward to summarize the discussion.

The closed session will feature reports from several high-ranking officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Foreign Intelligence Chief Sergey Naryshkin. Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky will also speak, as will Dmitry Artyukhov, the governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.

By position, the meeting will also include Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, parliament leaders Valentina Matviyenko and Vyacheslav Volodin, Presidential Chief of Staff Anton Vaino, and heads of all security agencies.

On June 4, Putin indicated that the Council would also address issues related to the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine during the meeting.
