Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on May 14 in Moscow for high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
According to a statement from the Kremlin, the two leaders are expected to engage in detailed discussions on key areas of political and economic cooperation, and to outline steps for deepening the Russia–Malaysia partnership. They will also exchange views on current international and regional developments.
This will be the second meeting between the two heads of state in less than a year. Their previous encounter took place on September 4, 2024, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
Russia and Malaysia share common positions on a number of global and regional issues and cooperate within multilateral frameworks such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). In January 2025, Malaysia also became an official BRICS partner country.
Currently, Russia and Malaysia have signed 20 bilateral agreements covering various areas of collaboration. According to Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Nail Latypov, trade between the two nations reached approximately $2.5 billion in 2024.
