Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed by telephone with Senegalese President and Chairman of the African Union (AU) Macky Sall the situation around the Russian special operation to protect Donbass and the development of ties between Russia and Africa.
"At the request of Macky Sall, Vladimir Putin briefed on the main aspects of the special military operation to protect Donbass with a focus on the humanitarian component. It was emphasized, in particular, that Russian servicemen are taking all possible measures for the safe evacuation of foreign nationals," the Kremlin press service said in a statement issued after the conversation.
The leaders confirmed the importance of consistent implementation of agreements reached at the first Russia-Africa summit in Sochi in 2019 and the further development of diverse ties between Russia and African countries, the Kremlin also stressed.
"Some topics of Russian-Senegalese cooperation were also touched upon in the context of this year's celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations," the statement said.
