Putin Urges Security Services to Take a Hardline Approach Against Terrorism

20 December 2024

Russian security agencies, particularly the Federal Security Service (FSB), must adopt a precise and uncompromising stance in the fight against terrorism, President Vladimir Putin declared in a video address marking Security Services Worker Day.

“Today, we face a series of serious challenges. Therefore, you must significantly enhance the quality of work across all key areas. Combating terrorism remains a primary task. I urge all security services, especially the FSB, to operate in counterterrorism with utmost focus and strictness, leveraging all accumulated expertise,” the president stated.

Putin emphasized that the National Anti-Terrorism Committee should play a central role in coordinating these efforts, planning preventive measures, and prioritizing the protection of strategic military and civilian infrastructure.
