President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. During the call, the two leaders discussed cooperation between their respective countries, as reported by the press service of the Tajik leader.
"The heads of state exchanged their perspectives on the present state and future prospects of interstate relations between the two countries within the framework of their strategic partnership. Both parties underlined their willingness to undertake additional measures to further the progressive development of constructive cooperative relations between the two nations," the statement read.
During their conversation, Putin also extended birthday greetings to Rahmon. The Tajikistan president celebrated his 71st birthday on October 5. Previously, the presidential press service had announced that Putin had sent him a congratulatory telegram.
Furthermore, the press service reported that Rahmon had a telephone conversation with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Council of the Russian Federation. Matviyenko extended her congratulations to the Tajik leader and discussed the inter-parliamentary relations between the two nations. "The Tajikistan president reiterated the importance of maintaining and enhancing the stable development of Tajik-Russian cooperation relations, expressing confidence that these ties will continue to flourish in line with the fundamental interests of both nations," the press service said following the conversation with Matviyenko.
