The United States bet on the policy of sanctions will not work, it only brings those states that have been subjected to such restrictive measures by Washington, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi told CBS TV channel.
"Yes, they can create restrictions, problems and difficulties for us," Raisi said, referring to the US moves, the extensive use of sanctions by US authorities in foreign policy. "However, sanctions have been imposed [by Washington] on a number of countries. By doing so, they (the US - TASS) bring them (such states - TASS) closer together, strengthen their unity. And because of this, the American sanctions will be ineffective," said the president.
"This approach [of the American side] will not work," Raisi predicted.
The conversation with him was recorded on September 13. CBS calls it the first interview the current Iranian president has ever given to Western media. According to the channel, the interview lasted one hour, but less than 15 minutes of it were aired.
