Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian remains the favorite in the race for Iran's presidency as the country heads into the second round of elections, according to a poll conducted by the Iranian research center Shenaakht.
The survey, which included 1,000 Iranians, revealed that 42% of respondents plan to vote. Among these potential voters, 52% expressed support for Pezeshkian, while 48% indicated they would vote for his conservative opponent, Saeed Jalili. Additionally, 15% of those surveyed have yet to decide on a candidate, and 17% are uncertain about participating in the upcoming vote.
The first round of the presidential elections took place on June 28, featuring four candidates. None secured more than 50% of the votes, necessitating a second round. Pezeshkian, a former Minister of Health, led with 42.5% of the votes in the first round, followed by Saeed Jalili, the Supreme Leader's representative to the Supreme National Security Council, who garnered 38.6%. The second round is scheduled for July 5.
