Russia and Malaysia to Deepen Cooperation in Emergency Response

19 June

Russia and Malaysia will continue strengthening their cooperation in disaster prevention and emergency response, Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov said following his meeting with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Putrajaya.

“Our two countries have significant potential for collaboration in responding to both natural and man-made disasters. We are ready to support each other and work as partners. I’m confident that the attention this area receives from the leaders of both Russia and Malaysia will help solidify our cooperation,” Kurenkov stated.

The deputy prime minister, in turn, expressed appreciation for the strong working relationship between Russia’s Emergency Ministry and Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA). He also highlighted the importance of boosting training capacity for Malaysian officers. “We are exploring broader cooperation, including potential technology transfer for the use of drones in disaster monitoring,” he added.

Following the high-level talks, the Russian delegation, led by Kurenkov, held a separate meeting with Fire and Rescue Department Director General Nor Hisham Mohammad. Discussions included prospects for further collaboration, such as Malaysian participation in emergency drills in Russia to study Russian fire safety systems and the use of artificial intelligence in crisis management and incident analysis. Russia also offered to share a list of training programs available to foreign specialists.
