Russia delivered second batch of 55 thousand tons of oil to Pakistan.

27 June 2023

The second shipment of 55,000 tons of Russian oil has been delivered to Pakistan's seaport of Karachi, Daily Pakistan reported on Tuesday.

The delivery was made by the Clede Noble tanker in accordance with the agreement between Pakistan and Russia.

On June 11, Pakistan received the first shipment of Russian hydrocarbons amounting to 45 thousand tons.

According to State Oil Minister Musadik Malik, Pakistan paid for the first batch of oil imported from Russia in the Chinese yuan.

Islamabad has opened an account in the People's Bank of China to pay for the oil supplies to Russia in Chinese currency. RMB payments will help prevent Western sanctions against Pakistan for importing Russian oil, and will also allow Islamabad to avoid difficulties in making payments because of the shortage of dollars in the country.

In January, Pakistani and Russian government officials reached a conceptual agreement on Russian oil supplies. Pakistan expects that imports from Russia will allow it to meet up to 35% of its oil needs in the future.
