Russia has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Afghanistan and Pakistan that ended cross-border exchanges of fire, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced.
“We welcome the agreement reached between Kabul and Islamabad through the mediation of Qatari and Turkish authorities on a mutual cessation of hostilities in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area,” the ministry's statement read.
Zakharova noted that the commitment of both nations to resolving differences through political and diplomatic means provides a foundation for maintaining peace between the two countries—both friends of Russia—and represents an important factor for regional security.
The diplomat added that Moscow “encourages Kabul and Islamabad to expand their partnership, including in counterterrorism cooperation.”
