Cooperation between Russia and Iran has reached unprecedented levels in recent years, marked by growing trade turnover and the launch of major projects across multiple sectors, Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexey Dedov stated in an interview with TASS.
“Relations have reached unprecedented heights in recent years, formalized through the interstate Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by our presidents on January 17, 2025, during President Masoud Pezeshkian's historic visit to Russia,” the ambassador noted. He emphasized that Moscow and Tehran maintain “comprehensive trust-based dialogue and consensus on most bilateral, regional, and international issues.”
Dedov highlighted that over the past three years, mutual trade has grown significantly alongside increased interest from business and creative circles in collaboration. New large-scale projects have also been launched in banking, transportation, energy, and nuclear sectors.
“Notable projects include the ongoing integration of our national payment systems Mir and Shetab, construction of the Rasht-Astara railway segment as part of the ambitious International North-South Transport Corridor, and development of the second and third units at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant,” he specified.
The Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signed following Kremlin talks between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian, entered into force on October 2. The document establishes a legal framework for long-term cooperation development between Moscow and Tehran, cementing their status as strategic partners across all spheres of engagement.
