Efforts to reopen Russia's embassy in Niger are ongoing, according to Igor Gromyko, Russian Ambassador to Mali and Niger.
"The exact date for the embassy's resumption of operations in Niamey has not yet been announced. However, following the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, noted in an interview that practical work is underway, including the appointment of an ambassador to Niger. More details may emerge in the near future," Gromyko stated in an interview with TASS.
Russia had suspended its embassy operations in Niger in September 1992.
