25 November 2021

Vladimir Safronkov, Russian Foreign Minister's Special Representative for the Middle East Settlement, discussed the Palestinian-Israeli settlement with Jan Dizdar, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, by telephone on Thursday, focusing on the difficult socio-economic situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank of the Jordan River.

"An in-depth exchange of views on the development of the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict with a focus on the difficult socio-economic situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank of the Jordan River took place. It was emphasized that the efforts of the world community should be focused on the improvement of the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian population along with the creation of necessary conditions for the resumption of the negotiation process between the Palestinians and Israelis on a set of final status issues," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The sides stressed that without solving the Palestinian problem in accordance with the principle of "two states" - Palestine and Israel, coexisting in peace and security, comprehensive stabilization of the regional situation is impossible. "In this regard, the unique role of the Middle East "quartet" of international mediators consisting of Russia, the United States, the UN and the EU as a mechanism approved by UN Security Council resolutions to accompany the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations was confirmed," the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out.

"The next round of Russian-Turkish consultations on the Middle East settlement in Ankara has been agreed in principle," Smolenskaya Square informed.
