Russian presidential special representative for the Syrian settlement Aleksandr Lavrentyev and deputy foreign minister Sergei Vershinin discussed the current situation in the Arab republic and the mobilization of humanitarian assistance to Syrians in need during a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. This is reported in a statement from the Russian foreign ministry released on Monday following the meeting held the day before.
"The current situation in and around Syria, the tasks of achieving sustainable stabilization on the ground on the basis of restoring the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity while continuing the fight against terrorism were discussed in detail. They also discussed the mobilization of comprehensive humanitarian assistance to all Syrians in need, including taking into account UNSCR 2585, as well as the promotion of a Syrian-led and Syrian-led political process with UN support, as stipulated by UNSCR 2254," the ministry said in a statement.
The Russian diplomatic mission noted that the interagency delegation also included representatives of the Russian defense ministry.
