Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Affirms Moscow's Commitment to Peace Restoration in Sudan

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, in a meeting in Moscow with UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Sudan Ramtane Lamamra discussed the current situation in Sudan and confirmed Russia's readiness to aid in restoring peace in the country.

 

"The importance of the UN's coordinating role, while upholding the principles of impartiality and neutrality, was acknowledged. Russia reiterated its willingness to contribute to the peace restoration efforts in Sudan," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry in a release.

 

The discussions also centered on the current situation "on the ground," emphasizing the urgency of an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of an inclusive inter-Sudanese dialogue involving all influential political forces and ethnoconfessional groups in Sudan. The diplomatic body highlighted the importance of UN efforts in Sudan, as well as Lamamra's recent engagements with Sudanese, prominent international, and regional stakeholders.
