Russian Deputy Foreign Minister discussed with the authorities of Guinea-Bissau the settlement of conflicts in Africa

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, during his working visit to Guinea-Bissau, discussed with the authorities of the republic on Wednesday issues of cooperation in the settlement of conflicts in Africa. This is said in a report of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry, Bogdanov was received during the visit by, among others, President Umaru Sisoku Embalo and Defense Minister Sanji Fati, and also held consultations with the republic's Foreign Minister Suzi Carla Barbosa. "Special attention was paid to issues of foreign policy interaction between Moscow and Bissau on topical international and African issues, with a focus on the tasks of the early settlement of conflicts and crisis situations in the Sahara-Sahel region, CAR, Mali and Libya. The parties underlined their commitment to constructive cooperation within the UN and other international formats in combating terrorism, extremism, piracy, drug trafficking and other challenges of our time," the report reads.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and representatives of Guinea-Bissau discussed the development of relations between the countries, including in conditions of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to Smolenskaya Square, Moscow and Bissau confirmed their intention to intensify political dialogue and strengthen trade, economic, investment and humanitarian relations. In addition, the parties discussed mutually beneficial business partnerships and the implementation of joint projects in the fields of geological exploration and development of mineral deposits, agriculture, fisheries and infrastructure.

"In practical terms, the process of implementing the decisions of the first Russia-Africa summit, held in October 2019 in Sochi was discussed, as well as some organizational and substantive aspects of the preparation of the next Russian-African summit, scheduled for 2022 in one of the African countries," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
