10 December 2021

The head of the Russian interdepartmental delegation, former Russian ambassador to Libya Ivan Molotov discussed during his visit to Libya with the head of Libya's diplomatic mission, Najla Mangush, the practical work on resuming the activities of Russian diplomatic and consular missions in Tripoli and Benghazi.

"During the conversation there was a lively exchange of views on developments in Libya in the run-up to the national elections scheduled for December 24. Prospective areas of Russian-Libyan mutually beneficial multifaceted cooperation were also considered, including the practical study of issues of resuming the activities of Russian diplomatic and consular representations, respectively, in Tripoli and Benghazi," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report issued on Friday.

In February, the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Switzerland elected a new Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh, and three members of the Presidential Council. The two authorities were sworn in on March 15 and took office in Tripoli to unify disparate power structures across the country and to prepare and conduct presidential and parliamentary elections on December 24.
