Russian Embassy: Iran Signals Readiness for Compromise Ahead of US Talks

06 February

The Iranian government is showing a clear willingness to reach a peaceful and mutually acceptable settlement with the United States, though the ultimate success of any deal hinges on the stance taken by Washington and Europe, the Russian Embassy in Tehran told Izvestia.

"The Iranian side has been transparent at various levels about its readiness to resolve its differences with the US through peaceful and mutually acceptable means," the embassy stated. Diplomats pointed to several public comments by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who has consistently called for a framework built on equity, mutual respect, and the restoration of trust—provided the US abandons its reliance on threats, pressure, and ultimatums.

According to the Russian mission, the burden of reaching a breakthrough now lies with Washington and European leaders, whom they claim have yet to show a pragmatic approach to the peace process. The embassy criticized Western powers for continuing to lean on "practically useless" tactics, such as double standards, unilateral sanctions, and the threat of military force, rather than pursuing collaborative solutions.

A meeting between Iran and the US is set for Friday, February 6, in Oman. The talks, centered on Tehran's nuclear program, will bring together an Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Araghchi and a US team headed by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
