Russian MFA: Aggressors "Driving a Wedge" Between Iran and Arab Nations

10 March

Aggressors are intentionally "driving a wedge" between Iran and its Arab neighbors, a statement following a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov and the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, reads.

"The Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to assist in every possible way to move the situation into a political and diplomatic channel as quickly as possible. It was emphasized that the aggressors are deliberately 'driving a wedge' between Iran and its Arab neighbors. Regret was expressed that peaceful civilians and civilian infrastructure in many countries of the region are suffering from the hostilities," the ministry’s statement noted.

Alimov and Jalali discussed the unprecedented military escalation in the Middle East resulting from the US-Israeli aggression against Iran, which they characterized as a violation of the basic norms and principles of international law. The officials also addressed cooperation between Russia and Iran within multilateral platforms, primarily the United Nations. "Alimov provided information on Russia's efforts in the UN Security Council aimed at ensuring a fair and objective reaction to the aggression against Iran and the situation surrounding it," the foreign ministry added.

The meeting was held at the request of the Iranian diplomat.
