Russia will examine the details of the proposed transport corridor between Armenia and Azerbaijan, to be called the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” Deputy Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department Alexey Fadeyev said at a briefing.
“As for the ‘Trump road,’ the Russian Foreign Ministry will study the specifics of the project, which, incidentally, has not yet been made public,” Fadeyev said. “As we have noted before, the involvement of extra‑regional actors in the South Caucasus should advance a peace agenda rather than create new problems and new dividing lines.”
He added that certain factors must be taken into account: “We have also pointed out the need to consider Armenia’s membership in the EAEU and the presence of Russian border guards in Syunik Province. These should be factored in when working through decisions on unblocking transport links in the region.”
On August 8, following a trilateral meeting in Washington with US President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration on a peaceful settlement between Baku and Yerevan and on establishing a transport corridor between the two South Caucasus states. The corridor will be named the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” and Armenia has granted the United States the right to manage it for 99 years.
