Western countries did not take into account Russia's proposed amendments to the text of the resolution on extending the mandate of the UN support mission in Libya, the Russian MFA said in a statement distributed on Friday.
"Unfortunately, UN Security Council members failed to find a compromise basis for agreeing on the original draft resolution, which envisioned a change in the format of the mission, both in terms of its structure and mandate," the statement said. - "The Western colleagues were unable or unwilling to take into account a number of principal Russian amendments to the text of the document, aimed, in particular, at ensuring the normal functioning of the UN support mission in Libya at an extremely important stage of the political settlement in Libya, prior to the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 24 this year, and also reflecting, in fact, the international consensus on the withdrawal of foreign troops from Libyan territory".
The ministry stressed that the Russian Federation is "aimed at continuing work to bring together the parties regarding the future activities of the mission, based on the important role of the UN and specifically the UN Support Mission in Libya in promoting an inclusive political dialogue to overcome the acute internal political crisis".
On September 30, the UN Security Council unanimously extended the mandate of the mission in Libya until January 31, 2022.
