Russian MFA says no Russians were injured in Beirut shooting

Russian citizens were not injured during a shooting in the Lebanese capital on Thursday, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday.


"The Russian embassy in Beirut reported that there were no Russian citizens among the injured," the foreign ministry said.


The Russian foreign ministry expressed its condolences to the families and friends of the victims.


On Thursday, Shiite parties organized a rally outside the court building in Beirut demanding the resignation of judge Tarek Bitar, who heads the commission of inquiry into the August 4, 2020, bombing at the Lebanese capital's seaport. Unidentified snipers opened fire on the protesters and the military patrols providing security. According to the latest reports, seven people were killed and more than 30 injured.
