Russia positively assesses the visit of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters on Wednesday.

"Very good," the diplomat said, responding to a TASS question about how the Russian side assesses the Algerian leader's visit. - "Yesterday a solemn meeting took place at the Vnukovo-2 airport, the [Algerian] president said that he was very pleased to pay a state visit to Russia."

Bogdanov noted the prospects for cooperation at the level of business communities and companies in the two countries, as well as technical cooperation.

"Indeed, since the 50s, 60s, the sense of solidarity, the support for the formation of Algerian statehood, the fight for the independence of the country - the history is very rich, very important so that the young generation, the current leaders, also understand the history and that this is such a solid foundation for our further cooperation," added the Russian deputy foreign minister.

The Algerian president arrived on a state visit to Russia on Tuesday. In March, Tebboune said he was going to visit Russia at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. A state visit is the highest-ranking foreign visit in the diplomatic protocol.

On June 10, the Le Jeune Indépendant news portal reported that the Algerian leader's visit would last from June 14 to 16. According to it, Tebboune will bring an extensive ministerial delegation, and is scheduled to hold talks with Putin. The heads of state may discuss the strengthening of strategic partnership, international issues, including the situation in the Middle East, in the Sahel region, as well as energy cooperation within the OPEC +.

Earlier, a source told TASS that Tebboune may attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which takes place on June 14-17.
