Russian Navy Ships Make Business Visit to Alexandria, Joint Exercises Planned with Egyptian Navy

A detachment of Russian Navy ships, including the Guards missile cruiser Varyag and the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, has arrived at the port of Alexandria for a business visit, according to the Russian Defense Ministry's Department of Information and Mass Communications. During this visit, Russian and Egyptian naval forces will conduct joint exercises.

 

The visit, scheduled to last until June 14, will culminate in a bilateral exercise with Egyptian Navy ships in the Passex format. The planned activities include joint maneuvering, communication drills, and inspection exercises. On June 12, Russia Day, a reception will be held aboard the Varyag with representatives from the Egyptian Navy Command.

 

The Defense Ministry emphasized that this visit and the associated exercises represent a practical step towards strengthening Russian-Egyptian naval cooperation. Additionally, the crews of the Russian ships will have an opportunity to rest and explore local sights after their extended deployment.
