Russian airspace controls at the Khmeimim airbase in Syria detected a drone launched by militants. The UAV was shot down by a Pantsir-S surface-to-air missile system, according to Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, deputy head of the Russian Center for the reconciliation of the warring parties on the territory of Syria.
"At 12:30 a.m., airspace control equipment of the Russian Khmeimim airbase detected a UAV launched from the territory controlled by illegal armed groups in the Idlib de-escalation zone," Kulit noted during the briefing.
According to him, the aerial target was destroyed at a distance from the airbase by the missile weapons of the Pantsir-S surface-to-air missile and cannon system. "There were no casualties or material damage as a result of the incident," Kulit stressed.
"The Russian Center for the reconciliation of the warring parties calls on the commanders of the illegal armed formations to abandon armed provocations and take the path of peaceful settlement of the situation in the areas under their control," the deputy head of the center added.
