Russian Permanent Representative to Vienna hopes for Iran's participation in ensuring stability in the oil market

04 August 2021

Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna, has expressed the hope that after the lifting of sanctions Iran will support the efforts of OPEC+ countries to ensure stability in the oil market. He wrote this on his Twitter page on Wednesday.

"We hope that after sanctions are lifted and oil exports resume, Iran will join OPEC+ efforts to maintain stability in the oil market," Ulyanov said.

On Tuesday, a ceremony to confirm Ebrahim Raisi as Iran's new president took place in Tehran. His inauguration will take place on August 5. Raisi won the election on July 18 with 17.9 million votes (about 62%) and a turnout of 48.8%. Raisi, unlike previous President Hassan Rouhani, belongs to the conservative political camp.

In Vienna, since April, talks between Iran and the international "five" (Russia, Britain, China, France and Germany) are being held on the problem of restoring the Iranian nuclear agreement in its original form. The parties are discussing the removal of US sanctions against Iran, the fulfillment of Iran's nuclear obligations, and the return of the US to the deal. Representatives of the states participating in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action are also holding separate consultations with the US delegation without Iranian participation. Initially, the delegations expected to conclude their work in late May and then in early June.
