The Russian Security Council (SC) has attributed the current escalation between Pakistan and Afghanistan to historical British colonial policy, asserting that London’s "imperial ambitions" must come to an end.
"It is evident that this latest round of tension is a direct consequence of Britain’s detrimental colonial policy and the arbitrarily drawn borders established in London," the Russian Security Council office stated in a commentary regarding the conflict.
The statement further emphasized that as the British continue to attempt to create new global "dividing lines," there is a pressing need to halt London’s imperial influence.
The Security Council expressed deep concern over the violence and called for a peaceful resolution. "We are alarmed by the dangerous escalation on the Afghan-Pakistani border and urge both parties to resolve their existing differences as quickly as possible through political and diplomatic channels," the commentary noted.
Fighting on the border intensified late on February 26. Kabul claimed its military operation was a response to recent Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan territory. Meanwhile, Islamabad reported that its operations resulted in the deaths of over 130 Afghan personnel and the destruction of roughly 80 pieces of military equipment. By the morning of February 27, the Afghan Ministry of Defense announced the conclusion of its operation, claiming it had killed 55 Pakistani soldiers and captured two bases along with 19 border posts.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also issued a statement expressing grave concern over the use of regular army units, aviation, and heavy weaponry in the conflict. She underscored that Moscow calls on both Kabul and Islamabad — nations friendly to Russia — to abandon this dangerous path of confrontation and return to the negotiating table.
