Head of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan (the governing body), Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has removed Police Director General Anan Hamid Mohammed Omar from his post, a statement of an official spokesman for the country's Armed Forces published on Monday on its official Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia) reads.
According to al-Burhan's decree, as of May 15, "Lieutenant General Khaled Hassan Muhyiddin has been entrusted with the duties of police director general."
The layoffs also affected Sudan's ministry of foreign affairs. According to an army spokesman, al-Burhan removed two distinguished Sudanese diplomats, one of whom Haider Badawi Sadiq was a longtime foreign ministry spokesman and the other a former ambassador of the republic to Germany, Abdel Muneim al-Beiti, from their posts.
On Sunday, the army commander dismissed the head of the Central Bank. In addition, it was decided to freeze all accounts belonging to the leadership of the rapid support force (special forces) and their companies in Sudanese banks and to stop any budget payments to the special forces.
