Sudan's army views the current situation in the country as an attempt by the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) to stage a coup d'etat and seize power. An official spokesman for the Sudanese Armed Forces said this on Tuesday.
"What we are witnessing now [in Sudan] is an attempted coup d'état and seizure of power [by special forces]," said the Sudanese army spokesman, quoted by Al Arabiya TV.
The spokesman urged the rapid reaction force members "not to participate in the conspiracy, to lay down their arms and surrender." If they continued to resist, he said, "the army would see them as enemies." However, he was convinced that the members of the special forces "are Sudanese, and they are not interested [in continuing] hostilities."
