Sudan's Army and Rapid Support Force (RSF) have extended the humanitarian truce agreement for another five days, the US and Saudi Arabia said in a joint statement issued Monday.
"Saudi Arabia and the US welcome the agreement by the Sudanese army and rapid support forces to extend the ceasefire they signed on May 20, 2023," the statement, posted on Twitter by a unit of the US State Department, reads.
Despite repeated cease-fire violations, the truce has provided humanitarian assistance to about 2 million people in Sudan, the document noted. "Its extension will enhance humanitarian efforts," the statement said.
Earlier, Asharq TV reported about the impending extension of the humanitarian truce by five days, citing a source.
