Sughd Region of Tajikistan Aims to Attract Tourists via Russian Regional Airports

Authorities in Sughd Region of Tajikistan are exploring ways to attract more tourists to the area through the extensive network of regional airports operated by the Russian company Novaport. This was reported by the regional administration following a meeting between the region's chairman, Rajabboy Akhmadzoda, and Novaport's commercial director, Sergei Dmitriev.

 

According to the administration's press service, Sughd Region boasts numerous attractions of interest to tourists, and by expanding its route network, the region can potentially draw more travelers from Russia. During the meeting, the regional chairman proposed increasing the number of flights to Sughd, noting that such cooperation would be mutually beneficial for both parties.

 

Novaport is a Russian regional airport network that operates airports in Novosibirsk, Mineralnye Vody, Kaliningrad, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, Perm, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Murmansk, Tomsk, Barnaul, Kemerovo, Chita, Ulan-Ude, Vladikavkaz, and Stavropol.

 

Currently, Sughd Region has one international airport located in Khujand, Tajikistan's second-largest city after Dushanbe. Direct flights from Khujand are available to Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Surgut, and several other cities. According to Tajik authorities, the number of tourists from Russia who visited the country in 2023 increased by 92.8% compared to 2022, and they intend to further boost this figure in the current year.
