Dialogue between Tehran and Moscow is among the priorities of the good-neighborhood policy of the new government of the Islamic republic, Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Wednesday during talks with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov.
"We would like to emphasize that in our new government's policy of good neighborliness, Russia is, of course, our priority," he said.
The minister said the presidents' regular contacts, as well as his personal visit to Moscow, demonstrate that relations between the two countries are "very close and privileged." "We must make efforts to achieve new objectives and a serious leap in our bilateral relations," he continued.
The Iranian foreign minister pointed to "a good track record of interaction on the international and regional agenda." "We have a very diverse bilateral cooperation. Today we will talk more about how to develop our cooperation in all areas," he stressed. - "We believe that in accordance with international law, we can develop our cooperation still in the field of trade and related areas."
According to the foreign minister, current negotiations with the Russian counterpart open "a very good opportunity to go over the regional agenda". "I mean on the South Caucasus, on Afghanistan, as well as on Yemen," he added.
