Tehran says Iran has no undeclared nuclear activities

26 September 2022

Tehran is not carrying out any undeclared nuclear activities, Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), told the 66th annual session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference on Monday.

"There are no undeclared nuclear materials or activities [in the nuclear sphere] in Iran," Eslami stressed, adding that all claims to the contrary are based on "false and fabricated information provided by the Israeli regime."

According to the AEOI head, Iran is a "responsible member of the IAEA" and has always supported "full and non-discriminatory application" of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. In this regard, he expressed hope that the IAEA would be able to maintain "independence, impartiality and professionalism" in its assessment of the situation around Iran's nuclear program.

Eslami also reiterated Tehran's readiness to return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) "if other parties to the deal also return to fulfilling their obligations and remove all obstacles and sanctions."

The JCPOA was signed with Iran in 2015 to address the crisis over its nuclear development by the permanent UN Security Council Five and Germany. Previous US President Donald Trump decided in 2018 to withdraw from the agreement. Current US leader Joe Biden has repeatedly signaled a willingness to bring Washington back into the nuclear deal. Russia, Britain, Germany, China, the US and France have been negotiating with Iran in Vienna since last April to restore the JCPOA to its original form.
