The Russian House in Baku has announced its decision to suspend operations following a request from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Based on the request of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the Russian House in Baku, a representative of Rossotrudnichestvo, is initiating the suspension of its activities,” the organization shared on its social media platforms.
The announcement follows reports of the removal of the center’s signage from its premises.
Last week, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ayhan Hajizade confirmed that a diplomatic note had been sent to Russia on February 3, calling for the termination of the center's activities. According to the statement, the organization lacks official registration as a legal entity under Azerbaijani law.
Yevgeny Primakov, head of Rossotrudnichestvo, later confirmed the development on Russian television. He noted that the Russian House must vacate its current location within six weeks, as the property owner intends to sell the building.
