The time and venue of the second Russia-Africa Summit will probably be announced in February 2022, Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, told reporters on Tuesday.
"I think in February [the time and place of the Russia-Africa Summit will be announced]. This will be finally decided in February because in February we will already be sending out invitations, as it seems to me," he said, responding to a question by TASS.
According to him, this will happen after the African Union Summit, when Senegal takes over the presidency of the Union. "Then we will already decide together with Africans and Senegal on the issue of sending an invitation with the place and time of this meeting," Bogdanov added, expressing hope that consensus on the details of the summit will soon be reached.
Earlier, it was reported that many countries on the African continent have expressed their desire to participate in the event. The Summit is expected to discuss specific proposals for the development of cooperation between Russia and Africa.
The first Russia-Africa Summit was held in Sochi on October 23-24, 2019, co-chaired by Russian and Egyptian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The second summit, scheduled for fall 2022, is to be hosted by Africa.
