Tokayev: Kazakhstan Accomplished All Goals During Its CSTO Chairmanship

28 November

Kazakhstan successfully achieved all objectives set for the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) during its chairmanship, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated at the CSTO summit in Astana.

"All tasks assigned to the CSTO during Kazakhstan's chairmanship have been fulfilled. I would like to extend my deep gratitude for the support in implementing our priorities and for the fruitful cooperation," Tokayev said during the summit, addressing the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

Tokayev highlighted that Kazakhstan focused on enhancing collaboration among member states, improving mechanisms for rapid crisis response, and bolstering the organization's capacity to combat terrorism, cyberattacks, international crime, and drug trafficking. "We conducted meetings of statutory bodies, military exercises, and preventive operations as planned. Key issues of collective security were thoroughly discussed by foreign and defense ministers," he noted.

The president emphasized the importance of exchanging views on the international and regional situation during the session and assessing its impact on the security of CSTO member states. "We will also review cooperation across various areas within the CSTO and summarize our activities over the past period," he said, officially opening the council session.

Tokayev mentioned that preparations for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, to be celebrated in 2025, were given special attention. "Today, we will consider a corresponding statement by the Collective Security Council," he added.

The session, held on December 28 in Astana, is attended by the presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Representatives from Armenia did not participate in the event.
