Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu described as erroneous the agreement concluded between representatives of the radical movement Taliban (banned in Russia) that seized power in Afghanistan and the UAE on cooperation in managing local airports.
"We considered the Taliban's approach to be wrong," ENTV quoted the minister as saying on Thursday. According to him, the agreements concern the provision of ground services at the airports.
Cavusoglu said the talks with the Taliban are ongoing, but did not specify what they concern.
The Turkish foreign minister said in February of this year that Qatar and Turkey had reached an agreement with the Taliban to manage four airports in Afghanistan. In April, talks between Qatar and Turkey and the Taliban stalled over technical issues.
On Tuesday, Afghanistan's Bakhtar News Agency reported that it had signed an agreement with GAAC Solutions of the UAE to operate airports in Kabul, Kandahar, Herat and Mazar-e-Sharif. It will be valid for 18 months.
