Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the conflict in Ukraine during a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, reaffirming Turkey's readiness to host a new round of negotiations, a source in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs told TASS.
"On March 17, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov. They exchanged views on steps that could bring an early end to the war in our region [the Middle East] and return to the negotiating table. Fidan noted that the prolongation of the war poses risks to both the countries of the region and the international order," the source stated.
In addition to the Middle East, the ministers addressed the current situation regarding the war between Ukraine and Russia. The source added that "during the conversation, Fidan confirmed Turkey's readiness to host the next round of negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine."
The discussion also touched upon issues of energy security.
