Turkey says about 12% of total grains within deal delivered to Africa

31 March 2023

More than 25 million tons of grain have been transported as part of the grain deal, 12% of which were delivered to Africa and 40% to Europe. The Turkish Ministry of national defense reported this on Friday.

To date, more than 25 million tons of grain have been transported since the beginning of the grain export arrangements. "As of March 30, 851 ships left Ukrainian ports. Out of the total volume of exported grain, 40% was received by Europe, 30% - Asia, 13% arrived in Turkey, 12% was delivered to Africa and 5% - to the Middle East", says the statement.

The ministry said that since March 19, 31 ships left Ukrainian ports with 1.2 million tons of food.

Agreements on food exports from Ukraine were signed on July 22 last year in Istanbul for 120 days and were prolonged in November for the same period. One of the agreements regulates the procedure for grain exports from Kiev-controlled ports in Odessa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny. In addition, a memorandum was signed between Russia and the United Nations, which envisages obligations of the world organization to remove restrictions on exports of Russian fertilizers and agricultural products to world markets. Moscow points out that the second part of the agreement is not being implemented. On March 18, Russia announced a 60-day extension of the deal, warning that this would be enough time to assess the implementation of the memorandum with the UN.
