UN Deputy Secretary-General Vladimir Voronkov Concludes Service

12 September

Vladimir Voronkov, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, is ending his service at the organization on September 12, he told TASS.

“I want to say that I am very glad to have worked within the UN structures. We have mutual understanding with Secretary-General António Guterres on developing the counter-terrorism agenda and I have his support,” Voronkov emphasized. “So this has been a positive experience. As I soon leave the organization due to retirement, I am confident the next head of this office will fully commit to its continued development.”

Voronkov, a seasoned Russian diplomat with decades of international experience, joined the UN in 2017 as the first-ever Deputy Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism. In this position, he led the newly established UN Counter-Terrorism Office, tasked with coordinating global anti-terrorism efforts. Under his leadership, the office unified over 40 UN entities working across this field and launched key initiatives, including a global strategy to prevent radicalization and strengthen partnerships with member states.
