UN Preparing Contingency Plans for Possible Refugee Influx from Iran

20 June

The United Nations is developing contingency measures in case of a potential influx of refugees from Iran due to the ongoing conflict between the Islamic Republic and Israel, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi told the German news agency DPA.

“We are working on emergency plans,” Grandi said. “We have not yet made them public because we still lack sufficient information and are waiting to see how the situation unfolds. But we are actively planning in any case.”

According to Grandi, there are already unconfirmed reports of refugees arriving from Iran in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan. At the same time, no country has yet formally requested assistance from the UNHCR, he clarified.
