Unknown man attacked visitors of mausoleum in Mashhad in Iran with a knife

A man armed with a knife attacked visitors to the Imam Reza mausoleum in the Iranian city of Mashhad, ISNA news agency, citing the press service of the mausoleum, reports.


Three people were injured in the attack, one of them died of his wounds, Tasnim agency reported.


It is noted that all the victims were students of spiritual educational institutions. The causes of the attack are being investigated.


The Imam Reza mausoleum in Mashhad is considered to be the main pilgrimage site for Shiite Muslims in Iran. According to the Iranian side, 15-20 million people visit the shrine annually.
